By the New Year of 1747 the spark of open conflict had been kindled in Les Pays d’en Haut. The lingering war in the east and whispers of Anglais traders in Ohio Country have caused increasing shortages. The Wyandots under Chief Orontony have come under the influence of English traders and whisper to their Myaamia neighbors about distrust of Onontony’s empty promises. Tensions have fanned to a flash point. Meanwhile at Post Miami, Ensign Douville tries to consolidate what loyalty remains among the Native Peoples and invites Myaamia chiefs Le Pied Froid (Cold Foot) and Pore Epic (Hedgehog) to a conference in Montreal. As the cold winter masks the tinderbox of conflict, Ensign Douville and the Garrison prepare to depart with these emissaries, while Chief Orontony’s warriors bide their time.
